It’s hard to believe but after many, many, many delays, Replaced is finally ours to enjoy. The action-platformer set in an alternative cyberpunk dystopian 1980s America sees the story of Warren and R.E.A.C.H.. The aforementioned R.E.A.C.H. being an artificial intelligence that has unwittingly been swapped into Warren’s body. Now, trying to outrun lots of folk who want to kill him, R.E.A.C.H. must return to the lab where it all happened to try undo what has been done.
Replaced: Defeat the Chapter 3 Boss Guide
At the end of Chapter 3, you will come face-to-face with Uncle Ben, the leader of the Termites and a hulking great boss to take on.
There are two phases to this boss. You’ll kill him once and then have to kill him again. At least they explain he has two hearts.
Phase One
Uncle Ben hits hard. He largely uses red, unblockable attacks (indicated by the red warning as he attacks). He does do an occasional parryable one, but to be honest, you’re better just dodging him. Dodge, land a couple of hits and dodge some more. You’ll still build up Gun Blast energy. Be sure to use your gun (RT on Xbox controller) when the meter is full as it does good damage.
But make sure you remove his armour first or you won’t be doing any damage.
Be aware of his spin attack, you’ll want to dodge away. He also uses a gun to shoot at you, wait for the red line to appear and dodge under it.
When you’ve done some damage to him, he’ll climb up to his thone and shoot at you. For the first shot, hide behind one of the stones. Then dodge away the second and third shots (again keep an eye out for the red line).
When he returns from shooting at you, he’ll have gained some armour back, so use your pickaxe to remove it before you can do damage to him.
Phase Two
You get your health stims back in between phases, so if you have any remaining at the end of the first phase, I’d recommend using one to top up your health before heading into the second round.
He’ll get back up and you’ll go again. The main difference is that he does most of his attacks twice in succession now, rather than just the once. His charge will go twice, so will his normal unblockable attacks, so you’ll dodge more.
In the second phase, I noticed that when Uncle Ben pulls his gun, there’s slightly longer when the beam turns red before he fires, so just give it another second or two before dodging.
He’ll also retreat to his throne to shoot at you at certain points, be sure to dodge at the right time.
