One of the year’s biggest titles, Forza Horizon 6 was a blockbuster launch on both PC and XBOX Series X|S in May. Releasing to commercial and critical acclaim – including our 9.5/10 review here at Gamer Social Club – the timed console exclusivity is still on track to end this year.
In September already, and with one of the most congested fall lineups in gaming history – in no small part to an incredibly busy September and Grand Theft Auto VI essentially owning November – there had been suggestions the game’s PS5 release would be pushed to early 2027.
That, after all, is not the case. Playground Games have reaffirmed their intentions to bring Horizon 6 to PS5 this year in a new blog post, featuring the latest British Automotive update. In a brief paragraph towards the end of the post they said: “If you’re planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned! Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your Wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability.”
XBOX have recently started to re-exclusive some of their first party titles, starting with Gears of War: E-Day which arrives next month, then Clockwork Revolution next year. However, the sales success of Horizon 5 on PlayStation last year is probably too much of a financial opportunity for parent company Microsoft to walk away from.
The British Automotive update will add the new Drift Attack feature, as well as three cars never before seen in Horizon games – 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed, 2019 Ginetta G40 Junior and 2006 Vauxhall Astra VXR. The Drift Attack mode will also give players the opportunity to unlock a rather sexy 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition. Sounds jolly good, ay old chap.
What content comes next for Horizon 6 is unknown. The game was revealed during XBOX’s Tokyo Games Show broadcast last year, and this year’s showcase is mere days away. I would be confident there will be information of the games first of two full DLC packs – though what the franchise crossover (likely a Japanese pop culture one) could be is anyone’s guess.
