Final Fantasy Resonance – Espers Guide

Espers, Aeons, Eidolons, GFs, there are many names for the powerful, godlike entities you can summon to fight alongside you in the FF series, and Final Fantasy Resonance is no exception. However, while you will encounter some naturally on your quest to stop the Sworn Six, some reside across the various continents. So here is our Espers guide to help you gather these powerful allies to your side and unlock both the Esper’s Covenant and The Sovereigns of the Planet achievements/trophies for recruiting three and all of the Espers, respectively.

Check out our Final Fantasy Resonance Review to get our full thoughts on the game.

Espers Guide

There are a total of nine Espers that can join you on your quest, but only after meeting their requirements, which normally results in a fight with the god-like being. Several of them have hints alluding to where they are on the world map, so be sure to check the noticeboards and talk to the locals of every location you visit to not miss them.

Below we cover where to find each Esper and what you need to do to have them join you.

Siren

Siren, the Goddess of Wind, is the first Esper you’ll encounter at the top of her tower, North of Grandport Harbor in the Kingdom of Grandshelt.

She explains to your party about the Espers, then demands you prove you’re worthy of her assistance. Don’t worry, she’s not a particularly tough fight, so keep your team’s health up and stagger her for more damage.

Ramuh

You need to enter the Mt. Thunderclap region from the alternative entrance, reachable after passing through the region as part of the main story.

Initially unwilling, Ramuh is swayed by Siren’s presence to test the party’s mettle. It’s definitely worth having your defences up with Protectga and Shellga, as Ramuh likes to use multi-target attacks. As always, look to stagger him, then punish.

Carbuncle

Carbuncle is hiding, and all you need to do is find them to have your third Esper, and a very useful one at that! Head to the Ruby Cave to the South of Olderion, the Aquapolis, at the heart of the Olderion Federation.

At the back of the cave is an epitaph with a riddle to read, mentioning three locations on the world map.

Visit these three locations and interact with the shine to pick up a Ruby Fragment. With all fragments in your hands, head back to Ruby Cave and interact with the epitaph again to have the Esper appear.

After a conversation between Rain, Carbuncle, and an old man the Esper had been playing hide-and-seek with, Carbuncle joins the team.

Titan

There is a large rock in the centre of the Dirnado desert on the world map, and Titan, the Earth god, is underneath it.

You need to have reached the Imperial Capitol of Zoldaad in Chapter Five to unlock the Colosseum back at Grandshelt Castle. Win the final round of the Fledgling League to get the Gaia Hammer for Lid, and interact with the large rock to have her smash it, revealing Titan.

Titan also wants to fight you, and depending on when you go back to duke it out with him, the fight can be a bit of a pushover. Summon Siren, use Wind attacks/magic to exploit his weakness, and keep your party’s health up, since he likes to target your weakest party member.

Leviathan

To have the serpent God of Water fight at your side, you’ll need to complete the ‘Nichol’s Duty’ side quest, which you start in Olderion, the Aquapolis.

Progress through the quest, and at the end you’ll meet and face off against the mighty Leviathan.

Being the God of Water, use Lightning attacks/magic alongside summoning Ramuh to try to stagger and deal big damage to the deity, with Visions like Tronn, Cloud, and the Warrior of Light equipped to your party members.

Shiva

The Ice Queen herself can be found on the snow-covered island to the southwest of Mysilia, clearly visible by the giant swirling tornado of snow and ice on the world map. Interact with it to enter a conversation with the Goddess and then prepare to fight her, but only after Jake fails to woo her.

Take out the elementals that Shiva summons to control the battle and avoid getting overwhelmed, and use all of the fire attacks/magic you have at your disposal.

While having Ifrit for this fight would be very helpful, he’s definitely the harder of the two to beat, so having Shiva for your confrontation with the God of Fire will help you a lot.

Ifrit

Just like his cooler counterpart, Ifrit can be found on the world map in a huge vortex of fire and ash above one of the volcanoes within the Imperial Territories of Zoldaad, East of the Capitol. You need to be in your airship, the Enterprise, to interact with the inferno, leading to you facing the disgruntled god, ready for a fight.

Ifrit hits hard and often, and will build up his rage when losing his Stagger meter, so be sure to manage your party’s health and defences throughout the fight, erring on the side of caution when necessary. Call upon Shiva to deal Ice damage to your foe and Carbuncle to boost those defences, and be sure to use items to heal once Reflect has been applied to avoid accidentally healing or buffing Ifrit.

Odin

Head to the eastern end of Gronoa, the Shuttered Land, and enter the Bladerain Stele location. Interact with the stele at he back of the cave to start the ‘Iron Splitter’ side quest.

The next step of the quest has you face Odin’s Shadow, so prepare for a tough fight, and use his weakness to Lightning damage against him. Ramuh and Carbuncle are great here, as are Visions like Cloud and Lightning for the Resonances.

Finish the questline down in the Nameless Ruins, and Odin will join the ranks of your other Espers.

Bahamut

Gather the other 8 Espers and rest on your airship, the Enterprise, to trigger an event.

When you want to face Bahamut, speak to Evan on the flight deck of the Enterprise.

Try not to use any elemental-based attacks (physical and magic), and keep an eye on the turn order so you don’t get caught out by Bahamut’s big attack at the end of its countdown. Carbuncle is handy as always, keeping your defences up and topping up any healing needed.

With Bahamut by your side, you will have gathered all 9 Espers in FF Resonance, providing you with some powerful allies and unlocking the Esper’s Covenant and The Sovereigns of the Planet achievements/trophies!
