Persona 1 And 2 Remakes Are Likely, According to Series Producer

After the phenomenal commercial and critical success of Persona 5, it’s safe to say that Persona is one of the most popular RPG series in the world. The games have significantly outdone anything else in the Shin Megami franchise to the point where Persona is almost treated like a separate series entirely.

On top of 5’s success, Atlus have delivered a great remake of Persona 3 – which is often considered the game that put Persona on the map – and a remake of Persona 4 will arrive early next year, with the voice actor for Kanji recently revealed at PAX West. While we know Persona 6 is also on the way, fans have been wondering if remakes of the first two games are planned. According to series producer Kazuhisa Wada, they probably will happen. According to an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, it’s Atlus’s duty “to make sure the older games aren’t lost to time.”

Persona 1 and 2 are currently the only games not available on modern platforms and I’m not sure Atlus wants to do a simple re-release of them either. After all, the first two games are quite different. They don’t feature the social link system the series is known for now and are more just standard JRPG games. Even back when Persona 2 got a re-release on the PSP, the gameplay was considered dated by then. So both would certainly be dated by today’s standards. I could see Atlus going further than a remake and doing full on reimagining with the social link system involved. This could be especially interesting for Persona 2 which is the only game to have an adult cast.

While it’s likely remakes of Persona 1 and 2 are a ways off, it’s nice to know Atlus wants to do them at some point. In the meantime I look forward to Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6.

Eventually, I grew to love fighting games in particular and began to compete and even win competitions for some games, primarily the 2013 revival of killer instinct. Outside of gaming I also have aspirations of being a comic book artist with a few ideas of my own im developing in my head. When reviewing any game I try to keep my mind open and avoid nitpicking too much. It takes a lot for something to detract me from truly enjoying it so I may not focus on smaller details the way some others might do. I enjoy almost any genre, just don't ask me to play horror games or puzzle games.
