Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is currently wrapping up the first of its two beta weekends. The closed beta for pre-order customers is just about to close, with an open beta scheduled for the weekend ahead. The beta which features new game mode Kill Block has seemingly been popular and we’ve been actively been getting stuck into warfare on the Korean peninsula here at GSC. If you’ve played the beta over the weekend you may have spotted that MW legend, Captain Price seems to have had a massive visual downgrade from the Price we once knew:

The charismatic British military serviceman has been in Modern Warfare since the 2007 original and is a favourite among fans. In the Operator selection screen of the beta, Price seems to have a rather unfortunate reduction in hair and general visual quality from that of 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot:

This had left fans baffled as to how the Call of Duty icon could look this inferior in a game scheduled for a release 7 years later, in October this year. Now, in a response post on X (formerly Twitter), Call of Duty have responded to say this is a known issue for players playing on lower-end hardware. The team are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it. Price should appear as intended on recommended hardware:

Whilst it had been rather amusing seeing some of the Call of Duty community poking fun at the seemingly new Price, it’s a relief to hear that this will be fixed by the studio. Call of Duty have been assuring fans that ridiculous off-brand skins that have plagued the games in recent years – like Lionel Messi, Beavis and Butt-Head and many more – are a thing of the past as they look to rekindle the grounded warfare style.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 releases October 23, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC (BattleNet, Steam, XBOX PC), and XBOX Series X|S. Modern Warfare 4 will not release on Game Pass this year following changes to the pricing model for the subscription service, but will join in late-2026.
