Those rumours turned out to be true, Xbox have just confirmed lower prices for two of its Game Pass subscriptions.
Announced today via the Xbox Wire blog, Microsoft have confirmed that two Xbox Game Pass tiers will be seeing price reductions. With that reduction, however, we see the removal of new release Call of Duty titles from the service.
Confirming the price change from today, Xbox Game Pass Ultime will drop from $29.99 USD to $22.99. PC Game Pass will also drop from $16.49 USD to $13.99 a month. Prices, of course, vary by region. Game Pass Premium will remain the same price.
As a result of this, it was also confirmed that new release Call of Duty titles, starting with this year’s release, will no longer launch into Game Pass on day one. These titles will be added to Game Pass a year later, during the holiday season. So, for example, this year’s Call of Duty will be added to Game Pass in the winter of 2027, as the 2027s title releases.
CoD Face
I suspect the last price increase to Game Pass was to try to accomodate for the lost expenditure that putting CoD into the service would bring, but seemingly it wasn’t worth it. Either, the addition to Game Pass didn’t translate to further successes, or that Microsoft preferred the bigger numbers from sales of Call of Duty.
In the announcement, the post does reference the strong feedback from people about the cost of Game Pass. It is entirely possible that new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is doing what she said she’d do, and listen to gamers.
“Our players cover a wide breadth of geographies, preferences, and tastes, so while there?isn’t?a single model?that’s?best for everyone, this change responds to a lot of feedback?we’ve?gotten so far.?We’ll?continue to listen and learn.” – Xbox Wire
Are you pleased to see Xbox drop the price of these tiers? Is it going to tempt you back into your subscription? Are you sad to see new Call of Duty drop day one release?
