Ahead of this weekends first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, Activision have shared the first deep-dive trailer for the game’s multiplayer. Call of Duty Next, the annual celebration of the franchise is taking place on Thursday where we will see plenty more, but there’s three minutes of Hollywood CoD for now.

In the classic Call of Duty trailer style, Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer features gunplay, animations and killstreaks in cinematic fashion. The trailer shows off the games new Apex Attachments, which allow each max-levelled gun to equip a unique attachment enabling them to carry out creative ways to dispatch enemies. For example, a 1911 pistol will receive an underbarrel shotgun, whereas sniper rifles can avail from underbarrel throwing knives. They’re something new to this Call of Duty and look very game-changing indeed.

With maps across Russia, Korea and wider Asia, there will be a diverse range of kill zones for players to rack up the kills. Of course, kill streaks return to the game with aerial bombardments from fighter jets and choppers raining down on unfortunate foes. Late in the trailer we also get our first look at the games tactical nuke, the coveted killstreak for racking up a high number of kills without dying. As the player arms the nuke, they’re airlifted to some sort of safety and whilst flipping the bird at the eye-melting explosion. It’s glorious:

Also once again shown publicly is the new Kill Block mode, taking place on a map which changes each and every round, with new cover, new buildings and more channels to outflank your foes to quickly rack up kills:

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Beta Details

Modern Warfare 4 will have two beta weekends back-to-back starting this weekend. The early access beta is for pre-order customers and runs August 21 – 25, with next weekends open beta taking place August 28 – September 1. The beta will be available on XBOX, PlayStation and PC for the first weekend, with Switch 2 being added for the second. Many like myself will be eager to see how the game performs on Nintendo hardware for the first time since Black Ops 2 on Wii U.

It’s going to be a stacked beta with many multiplayer maps and modes. Kill Block will also be included in the first week. Full details are in the image below:

This weekend and next weekends beta will also feature campaign for the first time. As a huge fan of Call of Duty’s cinematic campaign, I can’t wait to try it ahead of launch. The campaign will be available early this year on October 16 for pre-order customers.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 releases October 23, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC (BattleNet, Steam, XBOX PC), and XBOX Series X|S. Modern Warfare 4 will not release on Game Pass this year following changes to the pricing model for the subscription service, but will join in late-2026.
