It’s little less than a week to go until gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase, brought to us by Geoff Keighley. The list of titles that will feature at the show is starting to be announced including a new look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Mass Effect-like EXODUS and more.

Now, another AAA title is confirmed to be joining the ONL show from Germany, with a story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day. Confirmed by a 3 second teaser to X (Twitter) by XBOX CEO, Asha Sharma, a huge Locust smashes through a wall to some startled citizens of Sera:

Gears of War: E-Day takes place before Gears of War 1 during Emergence Day, when the Locust arisen from the underground of Sera and is a core part of Gears lore. E-Day isn’t the first Gears of War prequel though, as XBOX 360’s 2013 Judgement served as another precursor story for the franchise.

Following the success of the last two weekends Gears of War: E-Day betas, and the announcement of two terrific E-Day XBOX controllers, the marketing for the game continues to build momentum ahead of the October launch. For those attending gamescom this year, the campaign will be playable on the show floor.

There is a lot of hype building for Gears ahead of the release on October 6, 2026. The game will be an XBOX Series X|S console exclusive, coming to Game Pass day one as well as coming to PC on Steam and Windows. A Premium Edition will include 5 day early access to the game.
