Xbox’s 25th anniversary celebrations are starting to take shape with their release schedule as today during the Xbox Game Showcase we got a release date for Gears Of War: E-Day.
Gears Of War: E-Day will launch on October 6th 2026. After the trailer Asha Sharma confirmed that E-Day will infact be an Xbox console exclusive. There is nothing about timed exclusivity, so for now we will assume it isn’t coming to PlayStation at all.
The trailer that opened the show featured some jarring game play with Marcus and Dom in civilian clothes as the tremors begin and the locust invade Kalona. It looked fantastic, but it will take some getting used to seeing the crew not in their COG uniform and armor.

Other than the civilian clothing, the actual game play looks like what we’ve all come to love and expect from a Gears of War game. That third person, cover to cover shooting and active reload with gore filled executions.
Gears Of War: E-Day is the first Gears of War game since Gears 5 in 2019. Rather than continuing the current trilogy with Gears of War 6, The Coalition decided to go back and give us a prequel to Gears of War. E-Day is set 14 years before the first Gears game that launched back in 2006 on the Xbox 360.
Being a prequel, E-Day will see the return of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as the 2 main protagonists. Both are fan favourites and will be a welcome return to the franchise.

Having been a longtime fan of the series since it first debuted, I’m quite interested in seeing how E-Day turns out. Emergence day is a big day in the lore of Gears of War, so to actually play it as an origin story will add even more. The game will also be set in the city of Kalona, which will be the first time we get to see it in the history of Gears.
We will see a deep dive after the Xbox Showcase with the Gears of War: E-Day Direct.
