The reveal of 2026’s Call of Duty has been met with a promising reception from fans of the series. A grounded campaign which will take place in global locations including the Korean Peninsula, a new horizon for the juggernaut shooter franchise. MW IV pits you as South Korean troop, Private Park during a North Korean invasion of their homeland, whilst MW stalwarts including Price and Ghost will return with their own stories.
For some of the more recent Call of Duty titles, Activision have offered early access to the campaign to ensure players enjoy the single player experience before the multiplayer servers open and players skip the campaign. This was most recently offered in 2022’s Modern Warfare II and the following year’s Modern Warfare III. Black Ops 6 (2024) and 5 (2025) skipped the offering of campaign early access.
Modern Warfare IV campaign early access will become available on October 16, for players who have purchased the game digitally. This is a full week early, ahead of the game’s launch on October 23, 2026. Unfortunately, the early campaign access will not be afforded to players who purchase the physical edition.
Last years Black Ops 7, though regarded to be a true full CoD package, was met with a lot of backlash, particularly its zany campaign – though we found it to be an acceptable entry in our review. The return to boots-on-the-ground and ‘grounded warfare’ in the Modern Warfare sub-franchise was much-requested by players who felt Black Ops 7 moved too far from being a war shooter, even by Black Ops eclectic standards.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare IV arrives on PC, PS5, XBOX Series X|S and for the first time, Switch 2. This is also the first Call of Duty in three years that will not be included in XBOX Game Pass Day One following its price drop, although the game will arrive to the service within a year of launch. This is also the first Call of Duty title to ditch Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
