Brookhollow Park is expanding once again, with Obsidian Entertainment adding a new region, new bugs, a new boss, and some new features when they release the ‘Rot and Ruin’ Update for their co-op survival game, Grounded 2, later this year.
Check out the Grounded 2 ‘Rot and Ruin’ update trailer below.
Alongside a huge list of patch notes that you can look over in the post on the official Grounded 2 website, there is a lot to go over in this update, starting with the new area, the Woodpile. Termites, a familiar threat to fans of the first Grounded, have made their home amongst a huge pile of wooden logs, with Workers and Soldiers wandering its twisted tunnels, serving their Termite King. With some new attacks and behaviours, as well as new O.G.R.R. variants to contend with, players will want to take care when dealing with them.

But it’s not just the Woodpile that brings new threats and challenges, with one of the community’s most requested insects stampeding into the fray. The many-legged Centipede boss now resides somewhere in Brookhollow Park, so be prepared for an epic showdown or to run as fast as you can and hope it doesn’t catch up to you. Defeating the Centipede rewards the player with various goodies, from a new armour set, trinket, and staff weapon, to new furniture options and a new mutation to equip.
Thankfully, our tiny explorers will have another bug come to their aid with the arrival of the Potato Beetle Buggy. Larger than the Ladybug Buggy, the Potato Beetle is close-combat focused, able to unleash a spread of projectiles against creatures in front of it and use its Healing Roar to keep you on your feet. They can also haul resources and contribute them to blueprints, making them the perfect partner when building out in the field.

Speaking of your creations, you can customise them by adding colour with the paintball-like Splotcher. Whether it’s giving your base a signature look or just colour-coding your storage so it’s easier to organise, a fresh coat of paint can make all the difference.
When the ‘Rot and Ruin’ update lands, players will be able to upgrade their weapons and gear even higher with the addition of a new resource, Bismuth, which must be collected, refined, and used in the new Yoking Press to bolster your equipment.

Finally, it’s worth highlighting that players can look forward to Grounded 2 getting a reduced file size, dropping from 31GB to 18GB on PC, for example, and that the game is being upgraded to Unreal 5.7, with large performance improvements being made.
There’s plenty more to be discovered in and around the Woodpile, including new S.C.A.B. colour schemes and statues to collect, when Grounded 2’s ‘Rot and Ruin’ update arrives this Fall.
Grounded 2 is out now in Early Access on PC, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X/S. The 1.0 launch of Grounded 2 is planned for 2027.
