For Tropico fans like myself, January 28th 2027 can’t come soon enough. That is when Tropico 7 releases and we can finally get back to being El Presidente and rule with an iron fist! Or be a little more democratic I suppose, if that’s your thing. For now we have to settle with drips of news, and yesterday Kalypso released the story trailer for Tropico 7.
Now I know what some of you may be thinking, its a city building game, what story is there? And while yes the Tropico series, and city builders in general, aren’t exactly known for their stories, there still typically is a small on embedded in the campaign.
Typically, you start as a ruler of a British Colony and work your way up to becoming your own tropical country as you break free from the Crown. That is the gist of Tropico 7 as well, though this time around there are a few more things woven into the story.
A Revolutionist Trying To Stop El Presidente?!
As El Presidente builds up his reputation, and the island, some residents will stand in his way. The story trailer focuses on Victoria Guerra, a revolutionist who sees a different future for Tropico. As the campaign unfolds we will learn what her ideas for the island are and how to navigate them as El Presidente. No one goes against El Presidente after all!

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out as a fan of the series. With the new gameplay element of being able to go inside the palace and negotiate with people like Victoria, there is certainly chances for more story to be woven into Tropico 7 than previous titles.
Tropico 7 will be available on January 28th, 2027 with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and on PC (Steam, Epic Games), Xbox on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation®5. The Tropico 7 – Special Edition will be available for Nintendo Switch™ 2, featuring mouse controls for Joy-Con™ 2 controllers and GameChat functionality.
