It’s hard to escape Metroidvanias at the moment, there’s seemingly a new high quality one each and every week. The genre that cocktails creativity, complexity and exploration brings out some of the best design in the medium. Whilst the biggest entry in the genre for the remainder of the year is certainly Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, you need to be keeping an eye out for Silver Pines.
What we called “The Twin Peaks horror Metroidvania you need to watch” earlier this year, this survival horror Metroidvania continues to impress. I’d go so far to say it was one of my top-5 most anticipated games this year, and that’s before I played the exciting, atmospheric and seriously intriguing demo. In the latest trailer for the game, which you can see below, Designer and Co-founder of developer Wych Elm Games gives more details on the game’s eerie opening hours:
In the trailer, which features sections from the demo, we see protagonist private investigator, Red Walker waking in a very Twin Peaks-like diner. Walker takes a call about the man we’re hunting for, Eddie Velvet, a mysterious missing musician. The developers don’t go into too many story details but explain how they want to build dread in the player, as well as a feeling that something is not quite right. If you’ve played the demo too, you’ll know this town is not as it seems.
Finally, the trailer shows some of the games 2D shooting combat including unloading a shotgun in a spooky foes face. The game is very survival horror with extremely limited ammo, Walker will have to make every shot count.
Silver Pines arrives October 8, 2026 on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S (including Play Anywhere), Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.
