Sovereign Tower has been one of my favorite games this year. And that is saying a lot considering how jam packed 2026 has been. I’m not the only one who has been able to enjoy Sovereign Tower, as the team has shared they hit a milestone! As of September 17th, they’ve sold 100,000 copies and climbing!
? We recently sold our 100,000th copy of Sovereign Tower on Steam! ?

We can't thank you enough, from the bottom of our hearts, we're so grateful to have such an incredible community and we're just so happy that players are enjoying our game.
Merci ??https://t.co/t5mQxNySqh
The 100,000 mark is a well deserved feat for an indie team. It also made it great timing for our interview with Gobert, Creative and Art Director of Sovereign Tower. If you’ve played the game and the name seems somewhat familiar, don’t worry, we address that too. But only after one very important question that was top of my mind.
Before we dive into the Sovereign Tower, the art, the style, and the resurgence of fantasy worlds as a setting, I have a very important question. What makes you only a one star influencer as stated on the WILD WITS Team page?
Haha, mainly because I’m absolutely terrible at maintaining a continued activity on my socials these days! Which I always feel terrible about since I could only get this job thanks to the community that helped feed me for years!
Now that we’ve hit on the most pressing question, yes this is a joke, how does it feel to see the positive reaction to Sovereign Tower?
It feels very rewarding of course! We don’t often get to see so many fanarts of character we create, and our community is especially productive! Seeing all the fan reactions and content is a powerful drive for us, that will certainly continue to motivate us for the future.
Sovereign Tower also plays quite differently than WILD WITS previous game, Crown Gambit, but the art style stayed the same. Was there ever any discussion about moving towards a different style? Or was this something you knew would be consistent in WILD WITS games moving forward? Or does this have to do with overlap of characters between the two games?
Haha well we do consider the Sovereign artstyle to be quite different from Crown Gambit, although the character design is still very much my own style, the colors and textures of the game have turned into something lighter and clearer, to account for the change in tone of the game compared to Crown Gambit.

Using the colors and textures to account for the tone is really clever! It sounds like something players perhaps to also experience for themselves. While I know Sovereign Tower is the recent release, is there something you were very proud of with Crown Gambit that you’d still like players to go back to and experience or see?
Yes of course! As an artist, I hope some players can go take a look at some of the bosses of Crown Gambit which I’m still very proud of! As a member of Wild Wits, I hope people get to experience the Ancestral grace feature from Crown, which was, I believe, one of our most creative features at the time.
Speaking of creativity, your art style is something that is quite distinct to lots of other fantasy games. Where do you draw your inspiration from when it comes to each character? And do you think your style has continued to evolve since Crown Gambit?
Well It’s quite varied, honestly! Obviously I look at a lot of modern shows, anime and other media that inspires me greatly, but I think the magic happens when we mix character concepts that we could see in a modern shonen manga with archetypes that you’d mostly see in old medieval French literature.
Do you get a lot of say on the character’s appearance? And if so, is there one that you feel most proud of or is just a personal favorite?
Yes! To be honest I have near complete freedom on the character’s design and stories. In terms of design Epicrates is definitely one of my favorite character designs from this game, Gwendan is also a character I’ve been wanting to make for quite some time now haha.

Speaking of characters, there’s a certain character, Goberto, very close to your name. Are there any similarities that you and Goberto share?
Goberto is sort of my insert in the game! He was originally planned to be more of a one note joke character, but he ended up becoming a bit of a mascot for the game I guess haha. I’d say we’re both pretty blunt and unsubtle sometimes.
Personally I think what makes Sovereign Tower so enticing is the familiarity of a fantasy setting while also feeling like it stands on its own. Do you feel there has been a revitalization of the fantasy genre in recent years? And if so, what do you think has led to this?
Yes definitely, although you could say fantasy in and of itself is one of the oldest genres in fiction, and it frequently reinvents itself to fit the era it’s written in. But in more recent years I think the great popularity of TTrpgs has been one of the driving forces behind this interest in fantasy (at least in western countries) . Shows like Game of Thrones and games like the Soul franchise also have a big role in adding something new to the genre I believe.
Is there a particular piece of media, besides Sovereign Tower, that you think people who may be interested in the fantasy genre should explore?
In games, I don’t see many other games come close to the Soul series and Elden Ring at the moment. For comics I recommend Tower Dungeon, which is a personal favorite at the moment. For books I’d always recommend Earthsea, which is quite different from the other piece of media I just recommended, but I believe it opens up new horizons in fantasy that I don’t see enough people take inspiration from in my opinion.
What about for those who are already into fantasy? Is there a dark horse or a lesser known piece of fantasy that you’d like to recommend to people?
Well I always recommend reading up actual medieval or renaissance literature, it often holds up more than people think, and taking inspiration from lesser known and forgotten stories is very enriching, especially if you’re an author.
The cycle of the paladins of Charlemagne is one of my biggest inspirations, and it’s pretty niche at the moment.
Do you already have a next project in mind, be it for WILD WITS or for your own creative exploration?
This I’m afraid, I cannot disclose….
That means we’ll just have to keep a close eye out! We know where to send people to check out WILD WITS games thankfully! If people want to see your own art, where can they go to find it outside of gaming if anywhere?
I’m on most platforms, but the most active at the moment is Instagram! Feel free to come say hello!
Anything else you’d like to let our readers know about you, fantasy, art, or Sovereign Tower?
Believe it or not, we made Sovereign Tower with a core team of around 4/5 people in a year! This has been an arduous journey for us so I’d like to thank the team and every member of it! as well as the dedicated fanbase that has built itself around our little project!
The fanbase has truly been supportive of Sovereign Tower and all the fan art is proof. Once again, a huge congratulations to Gobert and team! A core team of 4-5 people and 100,000 copies sold is a huge accomplishment. Sovereign Tower is definitely a contender for my personal game of the year. If you’re curious about why it’s so good, be sure to check out our review. Of course you can also try the game out for yourself to help them hit the next milestone.
