It’s not even been a year since the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but Nintendo is already ready to tell us when Samus will be going on her next adventure as Metroid Ravenous, the sixth mainline 2D entry in the series, will be arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2027.

After disappearing for almost 13 years following the release of Metroid Fusion, the 2D Metroid series was revived in 2017 with the release of Metroid: Samus Returns, a remake of the second entry that originally released on Game Boy. Following this, Spanish team MercurySteam delivered the series’ first original 2D entry in 19 years with Metroid Dread, which went on to become one of the most beloved entries in the franchise both critically and commercially.

It now appears (although remains unconfirmed) that MercurySteam is back to deliver another action packed sci-fi adventure, as Metroid Ravenous was revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct. The game is a narrative sequel to Dread, exploring Samus’s newly acquired Metroid abilities while also acquiring new ones as she takes down a new team of villains.

Another returning element from Metroid Dread is that it looks like Samus will be talking more this time, a first for the series since the controversial Metroid: Other M. The trailer is narrated by her, although it’s not clear who is voicing the character, as her single voice line in Dread was recorded by Spanish actress Nikki García.

Metroid Ravenous Special Edition and Amiibo

Nintendo has confirmed that two amiibo, and a Special Edition, will release alongside it when it launches on January 28, 2027. The amiibo depict Samus Aran’s new suit and a Chozo statue. The special edition includes a steelbook cover, a copy of the game, and an amiibo of Samus in her Metroid Suit transformation.

Metroid Ravenous will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027.
