Mysterious Metroid Ravenous Gets Rated in Brazil

Whilst we’re still catching up from an incredibly intense summer of gaming news around Summer Games Fest, the XBOX Games Showcase and the June Nintendo Direct, but you can always rely on ratings boards to reveal the unannounced.

The Brazilian and Korean ratings boards are usual suspects of confirming a games existence before its publicly known, and the Brazilian board have struck again. This time it’s a Nintendo title that many will be pleased to hear, Metroid Ravenous. The no longer reachable listing was captured and translated by Gematsu before it was taken down.

Metroid Prime 4, the latest release in Samus’s story was a critical success last year when it launched on Switch and Switch 2. We enjoyed Prime 4 in our review but said some design choices held it back. The game has sold over a million copies since launch across both Switch generations.

Metroid titles interchange between being first person shooters in the Prime subfranchise, as well as 2D platformers which helped coin the entire ‘Metroidvania’ genre. Which this will be remains to be seen, but it’d be my best guess a 2D title will be in the works. The last 2D Metroid, Dread was an exceptional platformer and one of the best Metroid titles I’ve played. There is another possibility that Ravenous may be a full remake of a previous Metroid title, with Nintendo seemingly looking to focus more of their efforts on full remakes of classics, just as much as brand new titles.

Traditionally water tight, Nintendo seem to be struggling with leaks of as late. Whilst we don’t report on leaks / rumours / other here at GSC, many internet rumours including the remakes of Star Fox and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have both turned out to be real. Star Fox released just last week, in our review we said it’s a superb remake of a timeless space shooting classic.  The Ocarina of Time remake arrives later this year with a release date to be confirmed.
