Contraband Developer Avalanche Shutters Two Studios

It’s getting tiring writing these articles. Avalanche Studios Group, the developers behind the Just Cause series and the upcoming Contraband have announced they will be closing two studios, one in New York, one in Montreal, affecting roughly 50 people or 9% of the company.

While not many details were given in the statement, the company said “This is an exceptionally difficult decision, but we believe it’s necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company”.The closing of the Montreal studio is particularly confusing considering it was just opened in October of 2023.

What effect today’s news has on the upcoming Xbox exclusive Contraband remains to be seen but perhaps we won’t have to wait long to see with the Xbox Showcase this Sunday.

We hope all those affected land on their feet quickly.
