Double Fine’s Kiln Receives ‘Bisque Update’ Including New Maps, A Massive Price Drop, and More

Double Fine Productions has hit the ground running following its independence from XBOX following Microsoft’s massive “reset”, with its Amnesia Fortnight Kickstarter campaign close to reaching its $400,000 funding goal only three days after its launch. Despite already funding experimental new projects, Double Fine is not done supporting its multiplayer brawler from earlier this year, as Kiln has received a massive update today and a steep price drop.

Bisque Update

While much has changed in the studio’s operation following its break from Microsoft in the past few weeks, Kiln appears to be keeping to its planned content roadmap, as the Bisque Update includes the previously announced two new maps – Poseidon’s Bubble Bath and Ra’s Sunshine Nursery. A new creative mode known as Daily Throw is also available, which tasks players with daily prompts to design their pot fighters in exchange for XP and Chips.

There are also now weekly quests tied to progression rewards and an expanded character collection feature, meaning players can now save more customized appearances for their fighters. To match these changes to progression, the level cap has now been raised to level 60.

Servers have also been expanded to allow for party hosted lobbies for up to seven players, and host migration, allowing players to continue playing even if their game’s host leaves mid-battle. To coincide with these additions, custom games have also been implemented.

Price Drop

To commemorate the update, Double Fine has announced that Kiln’s standard price will be dropped to $7.99 for the base edition and $9.99 for the Fired Up edition across all digital storefronts. Double Fine is now the sole owner and publisher of the game, meaning that all profits for the game now go directly to the studio.

Today also marks the release of the Psychonauts 2 and Sun & Surf Decorative Packs, optional cosmetic items that add customization options based on Double Fine’s seminal 3D platformer sequel and summer themed designs. Double Fine also confirmed that it will continue to support Kiln, including a new way to connect and save accounts.

Kiln is available now for PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X/S. The game is also part of XBOX Game Pass Ultimate.
