Kingdom Hearts IV’s appearance during the June Nintendo Direct marked the conclusion of a prolonged drought of new information regarding the game since its announcement in April 2022. It seems like Disney and Square Enix aren’t quite ready to step back into the darkness yet though, as a panel dedicated to the series has been confirmed for Disney’s D23 Expo this August.
Kingdom Hearts is an action RPG series that follows Keyblade wielder Sora as he, joined by Donald Duck and Goofy, saves worlds based on classic Disney films from the forces of darkness. The series kicked off on PlayStation 2 in 2002 and has gone on to become a massive success – and inspiration for other titles like Duskfade, – selling over 36 million copies. The fourth mainline entry was announced at a 20th anniversary event for the series and is the beginning of a new saga following 2019’s Kingdom Hearts III.
While fans were thrilled to finally see new footage of Kingdom Hearts IV last month, the countdown once again began to see how long Square Enix would take to show us more, given that Kingdom Hearts III was announced almost six years before its release. Now, the schedule for Disney’s D23 Expo has revealed that a panel dedicated to the series’ 25th anniversary will take place on August 15 in Anaheim, California.

The panel doesn’t specifically state that Kingdom Hearts IV will be present, as the description reads “Join us for a journey through light and darkness as we commemorate 25 years of Kingdom Hearts. Discover how this saga united Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix, with insights from the creative minds, character voices, and more behind the magic.” If any new information is revealed though, it’s likely to be related to the fourth entry, unless Square Enix has a new crucially canon mobile game they’d like to surprise fans with.
Kingdom Hearts IV is currently in development for PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
