Final Fantasy Resonance Revealed, Coming To PC And Consoles In October

Square Enix had a large presence at the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, with spots for the Switch 2 version of Final Fantsay X/X-2 HD Remaster and Kingdom Hearts IV, among others. One of the biggest surprises was the reveal of Final Fantasy Resonance, a new entry in the FF series coming to PC, PS5, XBOX Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22nd, 2026.

Check out the Final Fantasy Resonance announcement trailer below.

After witnessing the destruction of the Earth Crystal by an ominous figure clad in black armour, Rain and Lasswell, childhood friends and the airship squadron commander and deputy commander of Grandshelt, Kingdom of Knights, return home to find it besieged by the very same figure, Veritas of the Dark. The two rescue their king and flee the destruction, and with the help of a mysterious girl called Fina, they vow to protect the remaining Crystals and stop Veritas.

Final Fantasy Resonance is the first HD-2D entry in the series, an art style that the Japanese publisher has used for some of their other IPs, like the Octopath Traveller series and Triangle Strategy. Described as a “celebration of classic and modern Final Fantasy that evokes the beloved titles of yesteryear,” Resonance features a strategic turn-based battle system with a modern twist, alongside the return of franchise staples like Chocobos, espers, airships, and Moogles.

But that’s not where the callbacks end, with loads of side content promised as well, including a Colosseum with deadly monsters and rewards to match, and the wandering swordsmaster Gilgamesh, all on a fully explorable world map.

However, Resonance’s most exciting inclusion is Visions, echoes of beloved Final Fantasy characters who fight alongside you with unique skills and abilities, allowing for even deeper party customisation. From the trailers and screenshots, we can deduce that most, if not all, of the lead characters from the FF mainline series of games will be available as Visions

A suggested retail price of US$49.99 is currently listed for all platforms, with a Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, which features the base game plus useful in-game items, available for US$59.99. Finally, a Collector’s Edition of the game, which includes the base game and the Digital Deluxe Edition bonuses, as well as four unique physical items like an artbook, soundtrack and a unique Final Fantasy Trading Card Game promotional card, will retail for US$209.99. (Adjust all pricing to your local currency.)

Final Fantasy Resonance releases on October 22nd, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S, Nintendo Switch & Switch 2.
