We’re almost at the end of the summer showcase season – much to our relief (I’m tired, boss). Earlier today, we got a glimpse at all there was on display the the Xbox Games Showcase. And my goodness, was there a lot. One game that truly caught my eyes in the sea of announcements, was a little title from Studio Meadowflower called Vivarium.
Just look at that art style! Definitely something that is very reminiscent of the Studio Ghibli films that many of us grew up with. But what did we actually get in this trailer? We’re presented the world from the perspective of Jenny. Jenny is an eleven-year-old girl, living in a small town…that happens to exist within a terrarium.

More on Vivarium
Vivarium promises a life-sim adventure with beautifully hand-illustrated artwork, harkening back to the earlier ages of anime classics. However, it seems that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this idyllic town trapped under a glass dome. And if I were to venture a guess, it’s going to land on Jenny’s shoulders to determine…what else lies beneath.
Throughout the course of the game, Jenny will be leaning on the other residents of her small town to discover the roots of her home. Each of these individuals promises to have their own unique and dynamic story, branching out and intertwining with others.

As of today, Vivarium does not have any tentative launch date in mind. However, when the game eventually does come to fruition, publishing will be handled by Serenity Forge (Slay the Princess, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus). It will also, at least as of right now, only make its way to PC and Xbox Series X|S.
