Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has already been host to a myriad of bizarre crossovers and guest characters in the nine months since its release. Where else can you see SpongeBob SquarePants and Minecraft’s Steve racing alongside Hatsune Miku and Persona 5’s Joker? During Summer Game Fest, Sega revealed that even more unpredictable franchises will be joining the game – Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds released in September 2025 and received multiple waves of new content, including paid DLCs based on SpongeBob SquarePants, Minecraft, Mega Man, and Pac-Man, and free updates adding Sega characters such as NiGHTS, Ichiban Kasuga, and characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comics.
During Summer Game Fest, Sega revealed the first look at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DLC pack, which looks to release next month. The pack will add all four titular turtles (in their Mutant Mayhem incarnations) alongside a new course inspired by the New York City sewers. It also provided the first look at the Avatar: Legends DLC, which will add Aang and Kitara, featuring their designs from the new animated film but won’t release until October.
Sega also teased the first look at the game’s second year of content, which will include a stage mashing up Sonic Adventure 2’s iconic City Escape level with Toho’s legendary kaiju Godzilla. The second crossover will be with one of the most beloved anime of all time, Neon Genesis Evangelion, as the trailer depicts Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu in Eva mech inspired karts, and a stage based on the anime’s Tokyo III, featuring Shinji Ikari’s Eva Unit-01 sprinting across the stage.
With four more DLC packs confirmed, it’s become a fun game at this point to imagine what other oddball franchises Sega will pull into Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. When a game already allows you to drive through the Krusty Krab as Yakuza’s Goro Majima, the possibilities feel endless.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
