Originally revealed under THQ Nordic and Black Forest Games, Paramount Games Studio has revealed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin’s video game adaptation is now in development at Bayonetta and NieR: Automata studio Platinum Games.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is a comic mini-series set in a post-apocalyptic world where only one turtle remains to take vengeance on the murder of his brothers. The comic has gone on to become a best-seller with follow up projects that became part of the Roninverse. It also inspired an R-rated feature film that was announced to be in production before ultimately being scrapped in 2025.
THQ Nordic originally announced that Destroy All Humans remake developer Black Forest Games to be developing a action-RPG video game adaptation of the comic series in 2023. This version appears to have now been canceled as the studio revealed during Summer Game Fest that character action masters Platinum Games is developing a new video game based on The Last Ronin.
This is Platinum Games’s second crack at Ninja Turtles following 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, which received mixed reviews. Given the studio’s strong return with last year’s Ninja Gaiden 4 following some significant departures, here’s hoping Platinum’s return to the streets of New York lives up to fan’s expectations.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is currently in development for “consoles and PC”. While you wait, it’s a great time to dive into the original comic series inspiring the game. A prequel comic, The Last Ronin Training Day, is due out July 2026. The one shot will feature Michelangelo training Casey Marie over a one day period. The story takes place between issues 3 and 4 of the original The Last Ronin miniseries. Time will tell how much of the comics will get end up in the game but this is one to watch for.
