To call Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds a strange kart racing game would be an understatement. Hot off adding Yakuza/Like a Dragon’s Ichiban Kasuga to its already stacked cast of Sonic and Sega characters, the game is gearing up to add even more beloved Sega and Sonic universe characters and release its first DLC, a crossover collaboration with SpongeBob SquarePants. Yes, you read that right.
Sonic Racing’s SpongeBob SquarePants DLC Release Date
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds released on September 25 and has already been receiving buzz both before and after launch due to its insane roster of over 25 characters. Some of these characters include Hatsune Miku and Persona 5’s Joker. Sega has also confirmed a full season pass worth of paid crossover content including the addition of characters and tracks from Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pac-Man, and Mega Man.
Now, as part of PlayStation’s State of Play Japan showcase, Sega has confirmed that SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star, as well as the Bikini Bottom track, will be joining the game on November 19. This is the second of the paid DLC content to release monthly. Previous we had the Minecraft content added to the game in early October.
Classic Sega and Beloved Comic Characters Join the Race

Furthermore, Sega has announced that the classic Sega Saturn character Nights will be added to the game for free in December, marking their return in a Sega kart racer since Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. Super Monkey Ball’s AiAi will also be returning, and join in January 2026, with fan-favorite Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comics characters Tangle and Whisper joining in February.
With the current roll-out, it’s fair to assume that the Pac-Man DLC will release in December, but even then Sega seems committed to adding free characters monthly to appease all Sonic Racing fans. With the Switch 2 version coming, it seems like Sega will be supporting this kart racer well into 2026.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is available now for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will launch digitally on December 4.
