If I asked you what animal would make a brave and battle-ready hero, your first thought probably wouldn’t be a snail. Well, in DeadRoots, a 3D metroidvania coming to PC that was revealed today at the Future Game Show Summer Showcase 2026, that is exactly who you are!

The lone snail adventurer you play as is Kitt, who ventures across fallen kingdoms where nature has been plunged into chaos. Set in a medieval world full of secrets, puzzles, and danger, Kitt will have to fight his way through hordes of enemies and screen-filling bosses to uncover what is lurking in the dark among the roots, slowly killing this world.
But Kitt is not alone, and while flies swarm overhead, rats stalk from the shadows, and worse things wait deeper down, some are willing to help our shell-wearing warrior. Combat is fast-paced and bloody, with severed limbs and gouts of blood flying across the battlefield, from overgrown ruins to dank dungeons.

Developed and self-published by Finish Line Games, the indie developer behind the surreal first-person adventure game Maize, DeadRoot looks like a game to keep an eyestalk on. We just hope it we don’t have to wait too long to play it, no offence, Kitt.
