The House of the Dead 2 Remake Release Date Trailer

SEGA’s classic horror light gun shooter finally returns soon. The House of the Dead 2 Remake now has a release date on selected platforms.

The remake to the iconic rail shooter will launch on August 7 2025 on PC (Steam and GOG) and Nintendo Switch. Interestingly in today’s announcement, there has been no mention of the release date for Xbox and PlayStation versions.

The House of the Dead 2 originally released in to arcades in 1998, later coming to Dreamcast in 1999. Later ports reached Windows in 2001 and the Wii in 2008.

The remake is being developed by MegaPixel Studio and is being published by Forever Entertainment.

The Remake promises the following new features:

Game Features:

Remastered music (with the classic soundtrack also available in the game)
Modern graphics
Gameplay faithful to the original game
Co-op mode
Multiple endings and branching levels
Multiple game modes

Various Game Modes:

Classic Campaign: Almost two years after the events of the first installment, AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart are deployed to investigate a city seized by undead creatures.
Boss Mode: Take on the challenge of defeating the game’s bosses as fast as you can.
Training Mode: Polish your skills in several available training scenarios to improve your abilities before deploying on a mission.

This is the second The House of the Dead remake, the 1997 original’s remake released in 2022 on to all platforms. However reception to the original’s reincarnation wasn’t strong as the game sits at a 57 critic average on Metacritic.

The House of the Dead has had an interesting history including titles that have released across a range of consoles. Whilst series entries have regularly featured in arcades, the original two released on SEGA platforms whilst they were still making consoles _ the original released on Sega Saturn; with 2 releasing on Dreamcast. The House of the Dead 3 released on to original Xbox and PlayStation 3, with the lesser-known fourth entry only coming to arcade and PlayStation 3.

Spin-offs include popular Wii title Overkill which later came to PS3. Meanwhile cult classic, The Typing of the Dead was a game that required players to type words as fast as possible to defeat on screen zombies _ arguably one of the strangest games of all time.
