Frostpunk, the bleak city-building survival game, will be overhauled in 2027. The revamped title, dubbed Frostpunk 1886, will get some new bells and whistles in a couple of years.

Frostpunk 1886 is being rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, bringing with it all the shiny gubbins that the engine provides. I’m excited to see what the new shinier version is going to look like, I loved the cold wintery feel of the original.

Developers 11 bit Studios have confirmed that Frostpunk 1886 isn’t going to be just a visual remaster. They’ve teased a “completely new Purpose Path”, more content, mechanics, laws, as well as mod support and more (though they didn’t say what more was). Though they did suggest that Frostpunk’s move to Unreal Engine allows it to “become a living, expandable platform”. This could mean more content in DLC form is being eyed up.

It’s a bit of a wait for the release of Frostpunk 1886, and we might be right in thinking that this will also appear on any new hardware that maybe about at the time, as well as PC of course. Though specific platforms were not mentioned.
