Following a wealth of online backlash to Switch 2 console and software price reveals this week, Nintendo have now confirmed that some ‘Switch 2 Editions’ of Nintendo Switch games will launch at $80 USD.
With various US retailers, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land will each retail at the $80 USD price point; whilst The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will launch at a slightly lower price of $70 USD. The mainline Legend of Zelda Switch 1 games often retailed for a higher price than other first party titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and games in the Pokémon series.

As with the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 first party games seem to have varied price points. Earlier this week, Switch 2 game prices were revealed. These include Mario Kart World costing $80 USD for a physical copy and Donkey Kong Bananza at $70 USD. Pricing of physical and digital versions of games varies by market.
Upgrades for existing game owners
However, this is only for gamers who don’t already own the games. Owners of the original Switch games can pay a fee to benefit from the various features each ‘Switch 2 Edition’ title offers. Nintendo have largely followed Sony’s PlayStation purchasing model for ‘upgrading’ their games to make the most of new hardware, with a one-time fee. The price to upgrade titles individually is yet to be confirmed. Subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will receive the two Legend of Zelda upgrades as part of their membership.
Switch 2 will launch on Thursday 5 June 2025 in all markets. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order sign ups are live in many markets. While many areas will see pre-orders begin on April 9th, the U.S. market will have a different date. Nintendo will need to take time to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” There is no word yet on whether these may also impact the pricing of the games as well.

We covered the initial pricing shortly after the Nintendo Direct, but understandably so, these are subject to change. We will continue to monitor the updates for Nintendo Switch 2 along the way.
