Invasion mode returns in Sniper Elite: Resistance, the newest entry into the famous sniping franchise. Taking place at the same time as the events of Sniper Elite 5, you play the role of Captain Harry Hawker, a British sniper who’s working with the French resistance to stop the latest Nazi Wunderwaffe.
Of course, the game’s all about sniping, skilled shots and causing the most damage and pain to some Nazi scum. In this guide, we’re looking at how you can unlock two of the game’s achievements / trophies:
- “Hostile Takeover” – Win one Axis Invasion as an Invader.
- “Hold the Line” – Defeat an invading Sniper Jager.
Both these achievements can be unlocked by playing on both sides of the “Invasion” game mode. Invasion sees either your single player game invaded by an enemy player, or you invading another player’s single player campaign mission. Your mission is simple, kill the invader (when you’re Harry), or kill your target (when you’re a Jager). It’s super fun, and I’m glad to see it make a return after Sniper Elite 5.

“Hostile Takeover” achievement / trophy
For “Hostile Takeover” you will need to access “Axis Invasion” from the main menu, select “Play” and then “Axis Invasion”.
You go through the options and find a game. You won’t be able to do anything with your loadout in the first instance. New weapons and gear are unlocked as you succeed in the game mode as a Sniper Jager.

Once you load into a game you will have to hunt Harry Hawker, the game’s protagonist and who the player will be.
To succed you will have a couple of tools to help. You’ll start with a a rifle, pistol and sub-machine gun, as well as some traps and throwables, like a grenade and teller mine. There will be phones on your map. You can use these phones to locate the position (at time of calling) of the player. Doing so will reveal you to your enemy too, so don’t stay in one place.
You will also have the “Stay Sharp” ability. This allows you to improve the vigilance of any of your fellow soldiers patrolling the map. They are indicated by blue faded circle. When made more vigilant they will become ‘marked’ with a blue triangle. They’ll alert you when they spot your quarry. And, of course, keep an eye if they’re still there, if they get taken out, then that’ll tell you something about Harry’s location too.

If you’ve played the campaign, think about where objectives took place, as you’ll receive indication if a player completes an objective. Do keep an eye out for the flare from their sniper rifle too.
If you successfully take out Harry, you’ll unlock the “Hostile Takeover” achievement as well as a new weapon. Repeated wins will unlock more weapons for you to play with in that mode.

“Hold the Line” achievement / trophy
For “Hold the Line”, you’ll just need to wait to be invaded. To make sure that happens, ensure you have “Axis Invasion” switched to “On” in the “Game” settings menu. You can change it to “Invite Only” so you can invite a known quantity into the game, rather than it being at random.
This might give you an advantage in winning too, why not take out all the soldiers before sending the invite out, so they haven’t got any support?

When they enter, you’ll be alerted that you’ve been invaded, but you won’t have much to go on. As Harry, you can use ‘Focus’ ability to gauge the direction of where they are. A red indicator will fill the minimap in the bottom left of your screen to indicate directionality of where to move towards (or indeed, where they’re coming from).
You can use the invasion phones scattered around the map to reveal the Sniper Jager’s location (at time of calling), but doing so reveals your location too, so don’t hang around. If you’re trying for this achievement, or just want to win in general, I’d try dispose of as many enemy soldiers as possible. The invader can make them more vigilant and they get alerted when enemies spot you.

Completing objective missions also sends a notification to the invader, but they don’t know which one. Keep an eye out for lens flare too, if they’re using a sniper that might given you an indicator as to their location.
