Here were are, the dust has settled and we can bask in all the gloriousness of the exciting reveals, closer looks, and ‘world premiere’s’ of this year’s Summer Game Fest.
With 100s of games revealed across a whole load of showcases, streams, directs and deep dives, there was truly something for everyone! But what are the Gamer Social Club community hyped about the most?
We asked our community members to tell us their top three games from all of the shows over the course of week or so (including the PlayStation State of Play, and Nintendo Direct), and we ranked all of the mentioned games by number of votes they received with some members telling us why their hyped!
Most votes: Gears of War: E-Day
Not surprising to see Gears of War: E-Day take the top spot in the votes, the excitement and energy that could be felt after the Xbox Games Showcase was real.
‘Goffey’ said: “It’s Gears game focusing on Marcus and Dom during the events of Emergence Day…what else do we need?” Hard to argue with that.
‘Steve’ added: “Always been a GOW fan and enjoyed all of them in the series, and for them to make a game about E-Day, just gonna be phenomenal.
‘OhNoNotAddy’ is also excited: “I audibly whooped out loud in my office at the end of this trailer. This is something I’ve suggesting to my friends for years, and I’m soooo excited to see what they do with. Don’t forget Gears 6 story though!”
2nd most votes: Perfect Dark
Another surprise from the Xbox Games Showcase, was the actual gameplay reveal for Perfect Dark, the reboot from The Initiative that has felt like it’s been coming for ages. Though we didn’t get a date, it’s certainly showed up enough to get our members excited!
‘Shinobi Bryant’ told us: “The original is one of my favourite N64 games so I’m looking forward to Jo Dark’s latest adventure. Hoping the Laptop Gun returns!”
Newer member ‘LentalisVenator’ said: “I honestly wasn’t sure we’d see this one but I’m so glad we finally got some kind of update on it and it looks fantastic. I see elements of a lot of games that I heavily enjoyed likes Deus Ex and Hitman, so I can’t wait to see more.”
3rd most votes: Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Marvel vs. Capcom Collection, Fable
A three-way tie for third position…
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The long awaited return of the popular RPG has certainly been a source of excitement for GSC members:
‘Steve’ said: “I just really was invested in Inquisition that probably became my first obsessive videogame. Played it twice (now on my third time) and with Veilguard releasing in the fall, I’m super excited!”
‘justfilthy’ added: “Huge fan of Dragon Age and ready to see the next game and see how the story unfolds.”
Marvel vs. Capcom Collection
Seems there’s a lot of excitement about the collection comprising seven titles from the popular fighting game series, even if it’s not making its way to Xbox, as yet.
‘Shinobi Bryant’ is looking forward to reminiscing: “These games were a big part of my early years as a gamer and I’ve spent plenty of quarters playing them in arcades and laundromats after school, lol. Glad to have them all in one collection.”
‘Scept Ember’ said: “Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is my most played, absolute favourite fighting game of all time, and I’ve been upset ever since they pulled the PS3 and iOS versions.”
‘LenalisVenator’ is more than ready for this release: “I’m a competitive fighting game player and the Marvel fighting games are the biggest reason why. Marvel Superheroes was the first fighter I remember playing and although it’s not in the collection, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was the first fighter I travelled for. So seeing it come back in any way was a huge surprise for me.”
Fable
I think a lot of us were blown away by Playground Games upcoming Fable title:
‘Goffey’ told us: “[It] looks fantastic and Playground Games seemed to have nailed the humour as well.”
Top of ‘LetalisVenator’s’ list: “It’s one of my top 10 franchises overall and has two top notch developers working on it (I don’t know what capacity Eidos is helping Playground, but still). Playground obviously knows how to make a fantastic open world so I can’t wait to see what they do with something like Fable.”
‘hurrikane2200’ tells us how he’s really feeling: “I cannot explain to you guys enough my excitement for Fable. Every atom in my body years for it.”
Honourable mentions!
The other games mentioned in the vote that didn’t pull higher tallies as the ones above, but still an amazing collection of exciting games that our community members are excited about:
- Life is Strange: Double Exposure
This is one of ‘Keegan’s’ most anticipated: “Life is Strange is one of my favourite franchises primarily because of the choice affecting how the game plays out, given they’ve been adding more role playing elements to the franchise with Life is Strange 2, and Before the Storm, I’m hoping this brings more of that energy into this sequel.”
‘Casualties of Gaming’ is also looking forward to it: “Big fan of the past games, particularly the original and Before the Storm, so another Max adventure has my interest piqued.”
- Doom: The Dark Ages
This new iD shooter in the Doom franchise topped ‘Casualties of Gaming’s’ list: “[Why?] Because it’s Doom of course + Chainsaw Shield!”.
‘Goffey’ put it quite simply as to his excitement: “More mutha effin DOOM!!!”
- State of Decay 3
It was great to see Undead Labs show off some more of what they’ve been working on, and we know ‘Steve’ is really looking forward to it: “Zombie games are my jelly and jam. This series has always been a fun little game to really feel those effects of the zombie apocalypse, and enjoyed them. Looking forward to see where this entry takes the series.”
- Windblown
‘Casualties of Gaming’ is certainly looking forward to his one: “As someone who has almost 150 hours into Dead Cells, I’m highly interesting in anything Twin Motion would be doing. This looks similar, just an isometric view so I’m hyped for this. Early Access has me even more hyped with this game cause Twin Motion have proven they will listen to fans.
- Age of Mythology: Retold
Topping ‘Keegan’s’ list is the upcoming RTS: “A game from my childhood that I still play today being remade, and will be on Game Pass.”
- Astro Bot
‘Shinobi Bryant’ is excited for this next game from Team Asobi: “Astro’s Playroom reminded me of how great 3D platformers can be. It was truly a joy to play and I can’t wait to see what they do with this next installment.”
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
‘justfilthy’ is ready to play as Zelda: “Huge Zelda fan, so any new game I get excited for. Combatis weird, and excited to see how it works.”
- Super Mario Party Jambaree
‘Keegan’ tells us simply for this choice: “I love pretty much all Mario Party games, so this is a no brainer.”
Other mentions included:
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
- Star Wars: Outlaws
- Metroid Prime 4
- Expedition 33
- South of Midnight
- Avowed
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2
