Major Expansion “The Surge” Announced For Frostpunk 2

With the El Niño expected to keep things rather warm this winter up here in Canada, 11 Bit studios is doing what they can to bring the cold. Today the publisher announced Frostpunk 2: The Surge, the third major expansion for Frostpunk 2 for PC and consoles.

Details right now are a bit scarce as the team wants to keep things on the story under wraps a bit longer. But what we do know is that Frostpunk 2: The Surge will release December 14th. The game is set in the frozen remnants of the USA and your people have reached a mysterious valley.

The reason for heading to the valley in such extreme conditions? Rumors of a relic that is capable of reshaping the world as they know it. While there they find a new resource that can help bring your city to unprecedented prosperity, but of course the various factions see different uses for it.

More will be revealed ahead of the expansions release, but we also now know that this will be the last major expansion for Frostpunk 2. The team will still work on maintenance for the game, but this indeed is the last content update. Of course the team is working on the upcoming Frostpunk 1886 as well as an unannounced title in the franchise that is a new genre for the series.

The world of Frostpunk 2 has always been rather mysterious

Frostpunk 2 has enjoyed quite the run since it’s release back in September 2024. Our review at the time we gave it a 7 saying “Although I wouldn’t say the game completely blew me away, I would certainly recommend Frostpunk 2 to anyone interested in this genre as I do feel it stands out quite a bit.”
