Last week, upcoming ‘cozy horror’ The Road of Dust and Sorrow announced that it will be releasing on December 3, 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch & Nintendo Switch 2. As momentum builds towards launch, developer, Painted Black Games have confirmed that a brand new extended Steam demo is releasing today.
In a press release, the developer states that the demo will include the entirety of Act 1, which means double the content of the previous demo: “Experience the complete Act I with expanded narrative beats and refined mechanics based on community feedback.” The developers have asked for players to provide their feedback on the new build, so they can look to incorporate changes into the final build.
Confirming what is different in the new demo, developer Painted Black Games said:
- This demo is twice as long as the first one, with way more story!!
- Quality of life and mechanics adjustments
- UI layout, combat and usability adjustments
- More intuitive control binds
You can download the new demo via Steam now. A console demo is not planned at this time.
The games excellent pixel art really impressed in the release date trailer, as it shared more about the apocalyptic story including playable protagonist, Katherine. As someone who has become more and more of a horror player in the last few years, this lighter-hearted approach is very high on my year end playlist. Although not yet confirmed to be Steam Deck verified, this looks like a perfect handheld title.
You can join over 150,000 players who have wishlisted the game on Steam, PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S now. Nintendo Switch & Nintendo Switch 2 versions will be available to wishlist soon.
