A few hours ago, Summer Eternal, one of several development studios set up by ex-members of ZA/UM, the developers of 2019’s critically acclaimed detective RPG Disco Elysium, revealed a countdown for their next project named Red Rooster. The 49-second video was uploaded to the studio’s YouTube channel, and you can watch it below.
The video opens with the Summer Eternal logo and parts of a chicken egg, like the yolk and the eggshell, suspended in space. It then cuts to an egg cracking, the yolk turning red and forming an “O” in the Red Rooster logo. A countdown appears next, slowly counting down the seconds, with the words “Come home to roost” above it, a close-up of a chicken’s face in the background.
Finally, it fades to a black screen, listing October 14th (the date the countdown finishes on), a link to the Red Rooster page on the Summer Eternal website, with the news that we would be getting the synchronised worldwide game reveal for Red Rooster. One of the songs from the game’s soundtrack, Corvad, plays throughout.
Visiting the webpage for Red Rooster shows the same countdown, with the option to sign up with your email to receive updates.
Summer Eternal is one of four studios formed by ex-members of the Disco Elysium team, and some readers might remember the 2024 studio announcement, which was marked by the studio releasing its own Manifesto, which stated that they would be working on an RPG with “complexity and ambition worthy to rival our wretched and wonderful world.”
