During the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, we saw the reveal of The Hollowing, a horror flight sim being solo-developed by Rubeki, the creator of the atmospheric first-person climbing game Lorn’s Lure. The Hollowing is currently slated to release this year on PC, and a demo for the game is available now.
Check out The Hollowing announcement trailer below.
Set in the same universe as Lorn’s Lure, The Hollowing tasks the player with flying between stations of the megastructure and maintaining their comms towers. Players will have to fly their little aircraft, looking for each station’s lights, finding the runway so they can land safely, fix and refuel what needs it, then repeat.
You are completely on your own, save for a voice on the other side of your radio. Will you stay the course and uncover the truth behind your mission, or will you stray and get lost in the depths of the megastructure?
The game’s Steam page highlights several features of The Hollowing, noting that it will be a short game with modernized retro 3D graphics like those seen in Rubeki’s previous titles, and tactile aircraft mechanics.

We got a couple of interesting details from the trailer, with the voice on your radio mentioning how the last engineer picked up unknown radio frequencies and suffered from visions due to the spores that fill the air. Who is the voice, and can you trust them? Why is the atmosphere toxic? Why are you being made to fly between and repair all of these comms towers? Hopefully we won’t have to wait long to uncover these answers.
The Hollowing launches later this year on PC, with a demo available now via Steam.
