Popular roguelite kingdom builder, The King is Watching, has received an new update, adding Steam Deck optimisation and more.
Good news for handheld gamers who like to manage their kingdom on the go, The King is Watching is now optimised for Steam Deck! Announced earlier today at the tinyBuild Connect Publisher Showcase 2026, a new update has been announced for Steam.
The update includes a completely redesigned User Interface (UI), gamepad support and an improved Steam Deck experience. They reportedly do not have a “Steam Deck Verified” badge as yet as the developers work to iron out any final wrinkles.

Developers, Hypnohead have also released a new update which includes a look at the development roadmap for the game. This includes the upcoming “Crowns of Fiction” DLC with an accompanying free update. This is scheduled for Q4 2026.
They’ve also released a new hotfix today which does the following:
- We temporarily turned off V-sync by default. We recomend to turn it off for the time being, because it may cause an input lag
- Now costs in shop change color if you have not enough denarii
- We changed how you interact with Altars on Volcano
- We release potential fix for Alt-Tabbing causing input lag, but we will investigate this bug further.

The King is Watching is available now on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series.
