During the first of two PlayStation State of Play events held earlier today, we saw the reveal of Maneater 2, the sequel to 2020’s original aquatic action RPG. It is currently in development for PC and consoles, with a 2027 release planned.

Co-developed by Tripwire Interactive, the creators of the first Maneater game, and Demiurge Studios, Maneater 2 is an action RPG where you play as a shark, or a shARkPG, according to the developers. Playing as the same bull shark from the first game, you’ll find yourself exploring the depths of Neptune’s Kingdom, a five-star, luxury theme park and resort; a lavish shell hiding a corrupt and greedy underbelly.
“Crash an exclusive, invite-only preview event hosting the world’s most followed – and most delicious – influencers and media luminaries. Fascinating evolutions are occurring under the surface as a byproduct of the park’s highly advanced Marine Research efforts to build attractions that push technological, natural – and ethical – boundaries.”
You live by the Four Es: Eat, Explore, Evolve, Escape. The food chain is yours to be devoured, and since you’re at the top of it, might as well enjoy all that it has to offer, above and below the water’s surface. Neptune’s Kingdom sits atop a vast underwater world to explore, filled with hidden secrets, strange delicacies, and other rival predators. Once you’ve gathered enough resources by eating everything in sight, you can modify yourself using five different genetic variations, evolving you into a nautical nightmare. All of this is in aid of you escaping the gilded trappings of Neptune’s Kingdom, before it’s too late.
Fans of the original game will be pleased to hear that the player shark isn’t the only returning character, with acclaimed TV and voice actor Chris Parnell (SNL, Archer, Rick & Morty) reprising his role as disgraced reality TV host Trip Westhaven to provide more bizarre commentary. The teams are keen to take the “power fantasy of ruling open waters as an apex predator” to the next level in Maneater 2, and part of that is keeping the original’s blend of comedy and carnage.
