Another summer and another Gamescom has inundated us with news, announcements, trailers, and more insight into gameplay of upcoming titles. And it wouldn’t be Gamescom without the Future Games Showcase at Gamescom (for all the announcements, check out our piece here). One title that provided a deeper look into their gameplay was Joey’s Entertainment’s The Journey Home.
Seriously, how gorgeous is this gameplay??? In the trailer, we hear the dialogue of a man, questioning where he is and where the path is leading him. We’re also presented with some stunning shots of what the developers are stating is actual gameplay footage.

I’ll be honest with you all. This is the kind of gaming that I adore – beautiful stories couched in reality-bending environments. Environments that will make you question what is real and what is not.
More on The Journey Home
The Journey Home, developed by Joey’s Entertainment (The Shift), is a duo-development team of a husband and wife. The wife behind the team – Sophie-Leigh Robbins, USA TODAY Best Selling Author (The Best of You, Snowflakes and Sparks), provides her beautiful story-telling to this new medium.
The gameplay, from what we can see in the trailer, is a 2D platformer with some puzzle-solving elements. It will have us traversing a constantly shifting landscape. There also appears to be some element of time shifts. We occasionally see a younger version of our protagonist, followed by an older version. Per the game’s Steam page – we also have telekinetic powers that can manipulate our surroundings.
The Journey Home is slated for a Q4 2026 release to PC. There is also currently a demo of the game available to test out now!
