It’s been a long time since we got a new Worms game, with 2020’s Worms Rumble being the most recent entry. Perhaps it isn’t a surprise that the series has been on a hiatus as the formula had begun to get a little stale, aside from a few new weapons and levels, the developers rarely deviated from the traditional map destroying warfare.
Developed by Absolutely Games, and published by Team 17, the Worms are taking their formula to a new tactical roguelike style. Announced at gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live – you can catch-up on all the trailers and announcements here – Worms: Galactic Tactics will allow you to bring your baseball bats, holy hand grenades and more to entirely destructible maps next year.
In the roguelike way, players will modify their powerful arsenal ‘and increasingly bombastic upgrades’ to take on a gauntlet of stages. Players will have to plan their moves, and limited special munitions to take on champion bosses including the boss, Emperor Flugg.
Galactic Tactics features a full single player experience but will of course feature multiplayer which can be played online or locally. You can, of course, dress them in the very silly outfits that Worms have worn since the dawn of the franchise.
The reveal trailer also closes with a tease of a new Worms that is also in development. No further details were shared at this time.
Worms: Galactic Tactics will launch on XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam) next year.
