Rockstar Games Break Silence on the Grand Theft Auto VI Leaks

Grand Theft Auto VI, the biggest video game release of all time, is now less than 3 months away. As November 19 looms, Rockstar has finally started the marketing drive for the game which includes an ‘extended look’ via Netflix tomorrow (August 27), which will be exclusive on the streaming service for several hours before coming to YouTube.

With everyone eagerly awaiting the official reveals, the last week has been a traumatic period for Rockstar Games. Grand Theft Auto VI leaks have been flooding the internet recently – you won’t find any here as we avoid leaks and gossip at GSC – including some that reveal more about the game than people like myself would like to see.

After days of deathly silence, Rockstar have finally made a public statement about the leaks saying the leaks have been “heartbreaking for our team”. It’s an unsurprising comment given they had managed to mostly keep leaks at bay for the 13 year development of GTA VI, but now the floodgates are opening.

Directing fans towards tomorrow’s official footage they acknowledged their own delays in getting true footage to fans, saying: “We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow. It has taken us longer than  we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to the level you expect and deserve.” It is clearly a deeply upsetting turn of events for Rockstar, with their development team keeping tight lipped on so many aspects of the game for so long. They will look to regain control of the narrative and messaging around the release throughout this week through a partnership with Netflix which is the studio “trying new things.

The full statement is posted on X (formerly Twitter):

Until now, Rockstar had been publicly quiet on the leaks, though they had subpoenaed Microsoft (XBOX) (credit: IGN) who have said they’re happy to work with Rockstar parent company, Take-Two. Rumours that they had also subpoenaed Discord were inaccurate, at least until now.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are open now with pre-download beginning November 12, including for customers who order the ‘physical’ code in a box version.
