If there’s one thing that reminds me of the Xbox 360 days, it’s Fable. And boy, have they given us some content to obsess over in the past few hours. Let’s start on a bit of a nostalgia trip.
It’s no secret that the original Fable trilogy is known as one of the most iconic parts of the Xbox 360’s catalog. From the carve your own destiny storylines to the wild randomness that seems to follow your character everywhere you go, many were sad to hear that the series had all but disappeared going into the late 2010’s.
Whether this was because of the slump the Xbox One generation caused or the community growing out of the games, we haven’t see much from the Fable universe since Fable Anniversary released in 2014. This, for the unacquainted, was a high definition remake of one of the entries in Fable: The Lost Chapters. When Fable Legends was canned with the 2016 closure of Lionhead Studios, many assumed that Fable would remain nothing more than a headstone in Xbox’s ever-growing graveyard.
Yet, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Xbox gave us a glance in 2020 into the future of Fable. Since then, we’ve gotten a trickle of new information from gameplay trailers, to story trailers featuring actress Hayley Atwell. Now, they’ve given us even more to gawk at with a new combat trailer and official quest gameplay. Check them out down below.

More Thoughts on Fable’s Gameplay Footage
Now, in the interest of not making you read a block of text as long as the page of a novel, I’ll let you take in all this trailer has to offer without my unnecessary rambling. I’ve done enough of that already. In short, the game seems intent on retaining that unique style of humor and goofiness of the original. Sure, your character might be a hero at the end of the day. But that doesn’t mean you’re not going to be pelted with the most meaningless quests in existence. But that is what makes Fable unique. One day, you might be hunting a world-ending demon. On the other, you might be kicking a chicken down the road. Every day is an adventure no matter where it takes you.

The combat on the other hand leaves a bit to be wanted if I am being honest. It looks very simplistic, and though the skill tree looks vast, I am hoping that it ends up looking a little more fancy. Either way, I’m hooked and can’t wait to experience all Fable has to offer on February 23rd 2027.
