Night City isn’t done with us yet and at Anime NYC we learned that there are still some rather intense stories to be told. While there had been drips of information about our new Edgerunners for season 2 since June, we are now seeing just a bit more of how their stories will intertwine.
Those in attendance at Anime NYC were also provided with the first seven minutes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. This included the new intro song, “10:15 Saturday Night” by the Cure. It definitely sets a different tone for the series when juxtaposed by the violence seen at the very beginning. Did we mention that the first seven minutes may be bloodier than many scenes in the first season?
Interestingly enough, one of our main characters in season two is Roman Carax, a cinephile looking to film what happens in Night City. We see Roman pretty early in the episode and hear how others find him to be the odd one out. He’s obsessed with movies, documenting things, and his peers don’t seem to understand this when there are other forms of entertainment to enjoy. In his attempt to catch some breaking news we see just how he begins to cross paths with these Edgerunners. It seems he’ll soon be learning more about Night City than he may have bargained for.
On the other side of the age spectrum (presumably) we have Weak Kingsly. He’s a veteran Edgerunner, clearly dealing with cyberpsychosis very early on in season 2. This won’t spell out anything bad for the series right? How will Talia and D also fit into this gang? Time will tell, but I worry for them all.

Fans should be ready for more emotional trauma in season 2. I already expect something terrible to happen to Roman, as he seems to be a relic in this world. With that childlike innocence, he surely won’t be safe in this world right? Of course we didn’t quite get those answers yet but this is just my own concern knowing how season 1 played out. When Den of Geek asked Bartosz Sztybor about the show and elements that needed to be included, he had plenty to say:
Of course the show had to be about that: edgerunners in Night City. More often than not cyberpunks are mercs working for fixers, but its a group that also includes people who are living on the edge, those who can’t fully cope with the reality around them and try to rebel against it in their own way. Beyond that, there are many more avenues and themes that are part of that DNA. The edgerunners ethos, the sense of sacrifice, different kinds of love in a bleak reality, even a relationship with your parents as something that make you who you are. If you recall the very first episode of Edgerunners, with David and his mother Gloria – that scene between them in the car, before the tragic crash occurs-we’re going deeper into moments like that.
What I can say based on the first seven minutes they aired for the Netflix panel is that they are delivering on the promise of Season 2 being sadder, bloodier, and more raw. So expect more emotional heartbreak, thanks Sztybor. If you can’t wait to return to Night City, don’t worry. The new season drops on Netflix October 20th.
