Last year at Anime Expo 2025, VP of Franchise and writer producer of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Bartosz Sztybor, announced there would be a new season of Edgerunners much to the delight of fans. At the time he shared that season 2 would be sadder, bloodier, and more raw. This may align more with what players of Cyberpunk 2077 had endured during the game. Now almost a year to the day, we’re getting more information on Season 2. On their official Twitter/X page, the team announced the first look would be coming June 29th.

Unfortunately for the team, or fortunately for the fans, a certain content creator may have let some details slip. The team is taking it with great stride and provided a small update on the first crew member, Weak Kingsley.

While speaking on panels for Anime Expo, Garnt Maneetapho, known as Gigguk, displayed information for the upcoming Edgerunners character. Based on the screenshots revealed during the stream, we learned that Weak Kingsley was once simply known as King. He was a “veteran Edgerunner at the top of his game, Weak now lives in the shadow of his former glory.”
In Season 1 we followed a mostly younger group of Edgerunners, primarily David and Lucy in Night City, also the setting of Cyberpunk 2077. With previous reports indicating that Cyberpunk 2 will feature a new city, it is possible that those who find themselves wanting more time primarily in Night City may find that outlet in the anime. Last we knew Night City would still be a location in the game but how strong the focus will be remains to be seen.
While anime may not be for everyone, the first season of Edgerunners had tie-ins to the game for fans. These included Adam Smasher and understanding why David is seen as such as legend. In the game you can find his jacket or even order a drink named after him at the Afterlife bar. The anime provides us the rationale as to why.
So the question is, will we see something similar in season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners? If so, is there a character you’d love a deeper dive on in anime form? Or would you prefer the anime to expand the lore of Cyberpunk 2077 and Night City? Let us know in the comments down below!
