Over the past year Gamer Social Club has had the opportunity to check out life and farm simulation game Starsand Island in its early access state. Developers Seed Sparkle Labs will be releasing Starsand Island 1.0 as of August 18, 2026. Let’s dive into what its full release has in store
Starsand Island is an open ended life simulation game focused on enjoying island life. Meet and build relationships with amicable characters while building your own homestead at your own pace. Farm, fish. explore and more. Customize your very own life in this beautiful island town.
Customization
Character Customization
Starting up Starsand Island, players will get to choose the basics of their character including skin tone, features and hair. The choices are very simple to start off, but as you progress in quests and relationships you’ll unlock more. You also will have the chance to purchase some in the clothing shop. If you like an outfit you can save it to easily access it again.
Players don’t have to wait for a mirror or dresser to change their character. By accessing the Makeup or Closet app on your Island phone, players can easily switch up their look from anywhere. Certain activities will trigger outfit changes like entering the hotspring, or getting into bed.
Starsand Island 1.0 will also include 4 new themed outfits sets. Surfing, Delivery Uniform, Dunhuang-inspired, and a Great Sage Set.

Costume Design Contest
Seed Sparkle Labs will be hosting a Costume Design Contest beginning August 18th (1.0 release day) There will be both pet and character categories with winning designs having a chance to be added to the game.
Home Customization
Customize and build your house from scratch or use one of the many blueprints provided. Expand your land to build the home of your dreams. Easily move farming supplies, storage crates or animal homes.
20 handpicked player created blueprints, including the Gold and Theme award winners, will be available in the library upon Starsand Island full release.

Mod Support
Modkit and Steam Workshop support will be added to Starsand Island 1.0. Players can now use ModKit to design their own in-game content like clothing and furniture. Support for languages is also included in the release.
DIY
The Community Center is now home to more than just the mayor and quest board. Starsand 1.0 will introduce the Starsand Shop which will unlock once players reach a certain point in the island life progression.
Players can pick up new outfits in the shop, along with newly added DIY kits. With over 100+ new kits, players will be able to build furniture, landscaping and building pieces.

Gameplay
Developers Seed Sparkle Labs have added a lot during early access, but players still have the ability to choose how they would like to play. You can speed run topping out professions, or take your time exploring the island.
A lot of the additions that have been added during Starsand Island’s early access period, have been due to community feedback. Seed Sparkle Labs have continuously updated the community through discord, holding open discussions and voting on what should be added to the game.
Improved Profession Progression
There are 5 different professions within Starsand Island. Crafting, Farming, Ranching, Fishing and Exploration. Each profession has its own mentor NPC who will help you with trials to help level up. They will also reward you with furniture items, recipes and ingredients needed for recipes, blueprints and more. If you forget how to approach a skill, select the guide (once called help) app on the phone to refresh your memory.
Crafting
In the early access review I mentioned that I believed the best skill to improve first was crafting, and I still believe that to be true. I will add, make sure you build every production machine and crafting bench when they become available. Starsand Island devs say several late game objectives require multiple items across multiple workstations. To save yourself from backtracking, have them ready ahead of time.
More handcrafted items have also been added in 1.0. It will allow for commissions, income generation, and production loops. The items will also have other practical uses such as decoration.

Farming
Farming hasn’t changed much during early access. Players can still purchase seeds from the seed shop, receive as a reward for finishing a quest, or when harvesting crops. Each seed has its own growth time and season. There is also a chance of growing giant crops by planting seeds of the same type in a 3×3 pattern.
Water your plants daily, or wait for the thirst bubble to pop up. Just don’t let them wilt, you cannot come back from it, and will have to mine out your crop. Improved visual effects for planting and harvesting have been added in 1.0, allowing players to easily read cues at a glance.

Ranching
You can raise a lot of animals in Starsand Island. There are 11 animal types to raise in total, each having their own feed requirements and items produced that will help you finish quests and as ingredients for recipes or blueprints. Every animal requires a dedicated space in a barn or coop. There is an exception with baby animals who will no longer occupy capacity until you manage space within a hutch. If your animals breed, no need to worry if there will be space. Animals also have their own unlimited inventory space allowing more convenient ranch management.

Fishing
Lots of places to fish on the island including lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Developers have adjusted the fishing game to feel even less taxing, with the distribution of fishing spots to feel more realistic.
Players still look for ripples in water, casting their line in front of the fish. Once the fish has bitten the line, a bubble with exclamation point will appear to let you know the line can now be reeled in. The line will turn yellow as a warning, and red if there is too much stress. Let it go and wait for it to turn white again.

Exploration
During early access there was a bit of confusion on where to go when navigating exploration in the Moonlit Forest. In 1.0 of Starsand Island, the presentation and guidance for treasure hunting has been reworked to resolve those problems. You do have to finish certain trial quests to access certain areas within the forest.

NPC Story Events & Dating
During early access the Starsand community shared that they wanted to get to know NPCs better. 3 and 5 heart relationship quests have now been added for 19 of the NPCs. This will allow players to get to know the townsfolk’s story, likes and dislikes and emotions. Four new NPCs have also been added to 1.0 inspired by Kickstarter supporters.
After reaching 3 stars with an NPC your mailbox may receive a letter, or you might be transported into a cut scene when stepping into a specific location on the island. If you have already reached 3 stars in your early access save, you can unlock the stories without starting over.
And yes, there definitely is a difference between dating activities and storylines. Storylines will gradually unlock as you become closer and raise hearts with an NPC. Interactions are platonic, and it’s all about sharing meaningful moments with a friend.
Dating will unlock an opportunity to create deeper interactions, once you have initially strengthened your relationship. There are 14 dateables, with new activities such as picnic dates, time at the arcade, flying kites and more. You can also invite them to hang out and spend quality time with you around the island.

Multiplayer
From the beginning Seed Sparkle Lab has teased us with the possibility of multiplayer, and now with Starsand Island 1.0 our wish is coming true. Online multiplayer will allow up to four players.
Players can travel to friend’s islands and help build, harvest, take care of animals and more. One of your friends just starting out? Share the wealth and pass along extra items. Rather than just creating a normal co-op playthrough, Seed Sparkle Labs wants to rather create a shared experience between friends.
The host island player can also choose what is and what isn’t allowed by visitors. Hosts and visitors will have the ability to progress in profession quests together and friendship progress earned carried back with visitors to their own island. Without interrupting multiplayer sessions, host can still buy and edit land.
There is also a new multiplayer shop. As players do more activities in multiplayer, there is a special currency that can be spent on exclusive rewards. The more you play in multiplayer, the more coins to be earned.
Currently cross-platform is unavailable, but with possibilities for the future.

New Major Festival: Pumpkin Carnival
Starsand Island is introducing a new festival in the 1.0 release. Players will be able to participate in the seasonal Pumpkin Carnival. By collecting resources through the five profession activities, players can redeem all kinds of rewards. New outfits, furniture, recipes and more.
Activities include planting and growing pumpkins, fishing for jellyfish, mining crystals, fighting monsters, and feeding your animals special feed.
Other Improvements
Storage
No more having to jump from chest to chest finding what goes where. There is now a global deposit function in your inventory allowing for distribution. An improved list of storage rules has also been updated for those wanting a little more customization when it comes to organizing.
Crafting and Processes
Players no longer have to guess how long items will take to process, queues will now show above the machine or in the interface. We are also getting a search function in both crafting and process interfaces making it easier to find what you’re looking for.
Doorbells
There’s nothing worse than trying to finish a quest and realizing you can’t because an NPC has gone into their house for the night. (Players need a certain heart level with NPCs to be able to enter their room/home) Well, you no longer have to wait outside, NPC houses now will have doorbells allowing for players to save time on progressing quests.

Final Thoughts
Starsand Island has only been in Early Access for six months, which is honestly incredible when you consider just how many playable hours are already packed into the game. And I am not saying this as criticism, In fact I think it speaks volumes about the support Seed Sparkle Lab has received from its community and how much they’ve valued player feedback throughout development. The game is polished, and despite some known bugs, developers are continually working to make this a beautiful experience.
Seed Sparkle Lab has truly listened to their community, and incorporated community created content into their game. That commitment to its players is a huge part of what makes Starsand Island feel like such a special game.
Starsand Island goes beyond in-game grinding. Instead of prioritizing productivity, it prioritizes relaxation and the feeling of truly being submersed into a game. A game you can customize and make your own. A game you can play solo or with friends. A game that goes beyond the code, and focuses on the players and their experience.
For those looking to experience the escape that is Starsand Island, it is available starting August 18th, 2026 on PC, Steam Deck and macOS on Steam, Xbox Series, Playstation 5 and the Switch 2.

Thank you to the developers for the key to review this game. Starsand Island was reviewed on a PC.
