Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Getting HOME Support Later This Year as Pokémon Bank Support Ends

Fan favourites Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen were released on the Nintendo Switch in February of this year – being the first GBA titles to be ported to the console. As with all new Pokémon titles on the Switch, Pokémon HOME support wasn’t available at launch, but the wait is almost over for fans that want to transfer some of their buddies from other titles to their FR or LG games. The Pokémon Company announced today via it’s website that FireRed and LeafGreen will be receiving HOME support in October 2026.

Alongside the support, they also announced that those that complete the FireRed or LeafGreen Pokédex, will receive a copy of Celebi, the Generation 2 Mythical Pokémon introduced in Johto. The blog post highlights that to receive Celebi “To complete this Pokédex, you won’t need to transfer Pokémon to Pokémon HOME either. Once Pokémon HOME is connected, if you have registered a Pokémon in your Pokédex in Pokémon FireRed Version or Pokémon LeafGreen Version, it will be registered in Pokémon HOME.”.

It’s not all good news for fans though, as right at the bottom of the post The Pokémon Company have also announced they are discontinuing support for Pokémon Bank from Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. Essentially the 3DS version of HOME, Pokémon Bank hasn’t been available to download since the closure of the Nintendo eShop in March 2023, but those with the app could still transfer Pokémon caught in old titles from Bank to HOME. This means if you haven’t transferred your favourite Pocket Monsters from the old titles to HOME before next February, they’ll be stuck on the 3DS for good.
