If you’re a fan of horror games there’s a good chance you recognize the name Sam Barlow. He is the Director of modern cult classics such as Her Story and Immortality. He was also the writer/designer on Silent Hill: Origins and Shattered Memories. Barlow’s studio, Half Mermaid Productions, has revealed its previously teased “Project C” as a sci-fi FMV horror game PRECOGNITION. It will be published by Phasmaphobia studio Kinetic Games in 2028.
PRECOGNITION was originally teased as part of Blumhouse Games’ initial publishing slate in 2024 alongside titles such as Crisol: Theatre of Idols and Sleep Awake. The game is a collaborative project with Possessor and Infinity Pool filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg (son of legendary horror director David Cronenberg). It will be a continuation of the non-linear FMV storytelling found in Sam Barlow’s previous works Her Story, Telling Lies, and Immortality.
It appears that Kinetic Games has taken over as publisher though, as the title was formally revealed by the Half Mermaid team during the Kinetic Publishing Showcase. The synopsis reads “Players take on the role of Diana, a woman who discovers she can receive visions of the future after an experimental implant is embedded into her brain.”
Similarly to the critically acclaimed 2022 release Immortality, players must observe Diana’s visions and memories to decipher the story. Half Mermaid also confirmed that Brandon Cronenberg was involved with co-development of the story and the writer’s room alongside Barlow.
PRECOGNITION will release for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2028.
