Hand-Drawn Metroidvania Fallen Tear: The Ascension Leaves Early Access This September

Winter Crew Studios, the Philippines-based indie developers behind Fallen Tear: The Ascension, announced on Wednesday 5th August that hand-drawn 2D Metroidvania would be launching in 1.0 on PC via Steam on September 16th, 2026.

Check out the new Fallen Tear: The Ascension Release Date trailer below:

Fallen Tear: The Ascension is a story-driven Metroidvania set in the high-fantasy world of Raoah, with players taking on the role of Hira, a mysterious child fated to stand against ancient gods. Along his journey, Hira will meet and form bonds with allies all across Raoah, unlocking new combat and traversal skills to alter how you fight and explore. Revisit the Temple of Oras, your customisable hub where all the allies you have encountered will congregate, and shape Hira’s fate through the bonds you form to reach one of multiple endings.

Fully voice acted to bring the game’s cast and world to life, and with beautiful hand-drawn animations capturing the game’s fluid and flashy combat, the full release of Fallen Tear: The Ascension offers 35-40 hours of story content, and more than 80 for all those completionists out there. The game’s content is roughly doubled from what it had when it launched into Early Access, totalling at 20 interconnected regions, 11 main bosses, 22 optional bosses, 21 Fated Bonds to forge, and much more!

It also marks the end of the game’s Early Access period, which began back in March of this year, with our early impressions concluding that the dev team were well on their way to making “a constantly fun and rewarding Metroidvania.”

Regarding the choice to release Fallen Tear first into Early Access, Stephen Manalastas, Creative Director at Winter Crew Studios said that “Early Access let us build Fall Tear: The Ascension alongside the community that plays it, and their feedback shaped everything from combat balance to how the Fared Bonds feel in a fight.”

Fallen Tear: The Ascension releases into 1.0 on September 16th on PC via Steam.
