Updated: Xbox Back Online After Global Network Outage

Update: After a lengthy outage that ran well over 12 hours Xbox has got their service back up and running as of 5:30pm EST.

In a post on social media Xbox’s Chief Technology Officer Scott Van Vliet gave an explanation of what happened.

Original Story: A few days after PlayStation suffered an outage with their online services it is now Xbox’s turn to deal with the same issue.

The issue began early in the morning here on the East coast as Xbox players started complaining of having issues getting online starting at about 1am EST.

By 5:30am Xbox support addressed the outage and said that they are aware and working on the outage.

We are aware that some users are encountering errors when attempting to sign in, see your game library, or launch games. Our engineers are actively working to mitigate the issue. For updates, please follow along here or on https://t.co/Ehlmwc7gX0.

The last update we have received was shortly before 8am with another post stating:

“Just checking in on the game library, sign-in, and game launch issue. We know this has been going on a while and appreciate your patience while our teams keep working on it. Watch here or at support.xbox.com for updates.”

As always this outage isn’t affecting everyone and if you are online right now you are probably safe if you keep your Xbox on. I know when the issue started lastnight I was already online and had no issues.
