Xbox Console Sales Spike 86% In June In The US

To say Xbox has been struggling of late would be an understatement. Xbox themselves have acknowledged it and are working on fixing the business. But at least for the month of June, things appear to have taken a turn for the better.

US data analyst Circana just released their June figures for the video game industry. While PlayStation and Nintendo saw dips in hardware sales (as expected) Xbox saw growth. And not just small growth either as they saw an 86% increase on hardware sales versus last June.

The number itself is eye popping, though it should be said last June was a low point for Xbox console sales. That means 86% of a small number isn’t as big as it may sound, but it is still significant growth.

With this big increase it also means June was the best month of 2026 so far Xbox Series consoles.

Momentum Building?

There are likely a variety of factors at play here when it comes to this increase. As mentioned last June was pretty rough but there surely are many more factors.

Xbox has been building quite a bit of momentum since they made some drastic changes at the top of the company. Since Asha Sharma took over we’ve seen a decrease in the price of Xbox Game Pass, the announcement of some games being exclusive again, and a solid June showcase, just to name a few things. There was also the release of Forza Horizon 6 that has been doing well.

You could also point to GTA VI pre-orders going live in June as a big reason, though I’m less inclined to count this since we didn’t see a spike with PlayStation 5 consoles.

Can They Sustain This?

The big question moving forward will be is this the beginning of a turnaround or just a blip in the radar?

While Xbox had built up all that momentum by June the company then cut several studios from their portfolio, cut thousands of jobs and raised console prices once again. This was all in July alone. How that affects things is to be determined.

That said Xbox will release Halo: Campaign Evolved tomorrow and while it is on PlayStation for the first time it will still be big for Xbox. Plus in September they have Gears Of War: E-Day which will indeed be an Xbox console exclusive.

Time will tell how we look back on this big June for Xbox, but for now it is a win that Xbox needed.
