Developer Hypnohead have announced that their well-received roguelite kingdom builder, The King is Watching will arrive on all consoles later this month.
Seeing a digital only release, The King is Watching will arrive on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on July 29, 2026. The game will support XBOX Play Anywhere and Handheld on XBOX, though there is no mention of the game arriving in Game Pass.
To celebrate the announcement of a console release, the developers shared a console reveal trailer:
Mashing together various game genres, players are tasked to: “Watch over your lands to gather resources, train armies, manage your economy, and prepare your defenses. But remember: only what the King is watching can work.”. In true roguelike style, each run offers new challenges and the randomized events bring the unexpected.
We thoroughly enjoyed The King is Watching on its PC release last July, saying in our review that despite some RNG issues, the game “strikes a smart balance between kingdom-builder and roguelite, offering a run-based experience that’s both strategic and refreshingly unpredictable.”.
You can wishlist on PlayStation and XBOX now, with a Switch eShop page to be made available soon.
