Halo Campaign Evolved Adjusts LASO Requirements and Adds Machinima Features

With mere weeks to go until the return of one of the greatest single player shooter campaigns of all time, Halo Studios have shared more on the features of Halo: Campaign Evolved.

The re-re-release of 2001’s Combat Evolved is campaign only, with multiplayer modes not included. However, with the introduction of 4-player co-operative play for the first time and three new prequel missions, there’s plenty to be excited for with this Unreal Engine remake. In a new blog post, more details have been revealed on the exact requirements for the LASO achievement / trophy, a Machinima mode and even friendly fire.

But first of all, in a cheeky post on X (Twitter), Halo took shots at PlayStation’s announcement that from January 1, 2028 there will be no new physical PlayStation games, by confirming the game will come on a disc:

LASO Requirements

Last month we brought you the Halo: Campaign Evolved Achievement / Trophy list which included LASO, as many feared (or hoped if you’re a Halo sicko). As Campaign Evolved features many, many Skulls, 42 in fact, players will not need to have all enabled to complete the LASO requirements. Only a subset of the Skulls are required to unlock the achievement / trophy.

Now, LASO becomes “LAASO” (Legendary Almost All Skulls On). the developers haven’t revealed the exact list needed for the unlock, but have confirmed they’ll share more details before launch, with plans to show the carnage at play in a pre-launch live stream.

Machinima Mode

In the Waypoint blog, Halo Studios have also confirmed that a Machinima Mode will launch with the game. Machinima Mode allows players to pop out into a freecam, whilst retaining the ability to control their Spartan. Players will also be able to lower their weapons. The developers are saying this will be a great way for players to create fun content. Longtime Halo fans will recall plenty excellent Machinima content was being made during Halo’s OG XBOX and 360 hay day, notably the legendary Red vs Blue series:

Whilst Machinima mode allows you to go into a freecam mode, Campaign Evolved will not launch with a Photo Mode, nor will one be added in the future.

Handheld Support

Halo: Campaign Evolved will be supported for major handheld gaming devices. The game will be Steam Deck Verified, and Handheld Optimized for Windows devices like the ROG XBOX Ally handhelds.

The game will also be playable handheld for PlayStation players who own a PlayStation Portal, the remote streaming device.

ICYMI – here are the PC system requirements too.

Other Features

Another new feature that will come to the original Halo campaign for the first time is the ability to drop a weapon for a teammate. This debuted in the most recent Halo, Infinite. Given the campaign is 4-player co-op for the first time, the ability to redistribute weapons between players will be welcomed.

The Fireteam leader will also be able to decide whether they wish to enable friendly fire for the co-op campaign. If you’re planning to use grenades to make your squad’s Warthog fly across the map, its probably best to leave that off.

More on the game can be read on the Halo Waypoint blog post.

Halo: Campaign Evolved launches July 28, 2026 on XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The game will be available in XBOX Game Pass Day One. 5 day early access begins for owners of the Premium or Collectors Editions on July 23.
